People have gotten way out of hand when it comes to finding a partner through video games and have made things creepy by pushing too far.
Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with meeting your significant other online. I know people who met through a game and got married, but boundaries exist for a reason.
Some of the reasons are basic personal boundaries like mental and emotional aspects, but when it comes to online spaces people throw it all out the window.
Video games like VALORANT and League of Legends are the two main games where I’ve heard or seen guys say outlandish things the second they hear a girl’s voice.
VALORANT is a five-against-five tactical shooter game with the goal of eliminating the enemy team, developed by Riot Games.
This is the first place I would hear guys talk in the voice channel poking around hoping for a girl to be on the team.
There have been countless times I’ve been in-game listening to creeps get turned down by these girls and completely disregard their age.
Child predators nowadays are flooding these online spaces to pursue underage girls and will seek out victims by any way possible, according to the FBI.
One way these predators take advantage of their victims is by befriending them to a point where they would hangout consistently, building a type of trust.
It makes me sick to my stomach that these grotesque losers are getting away with such heinous acts.
Although some guys know the boundaries and are respectful after getting rejected, others start to threaten them in the worst ways possible.
Girls who play video games would constantly be portrayed as damsels in distress and get hit on by boys when they are just trying to win the game.
An important detail in all this is that guys would say inappropriate things to a female teammate without knowing their age.
Finding creepy people in video games is not uncommon. People have made videos exposing these predators, and it’s pretty gross, like in a YouTube video by cutespiders, where he played multiple matches of VALORANT exposing his teammates as they say pedophilic comments.
What is crazy about this is that Valorant keeps voice logs from each game, but only will look into scenarios if they are reported by another player, according to the VALORANT website.
It’s become so disgusting to a point I’m surprised Chris Hansen has not made another “To Catch a Predator” show to try and catch these creeps.
These women go through so much harassment already playing video games and end up experiencing more crass and derogative comments, according to an Aug. 10, 2025 article from Psychology Today.
It sucks that women are treated this way when it comes to video games, as some titles suggest communicating with the team to potentially change the match’s outcome.
The other side I have seen are the “e-couples” who are in their own little world and not caring about the rest of the team. Of course this is not just online, as couples will publicly act the same way as they do online and will be very loud to draw attention to themselves.
The easiest way to identify if you are in matched with an “e-couple” is if the usernames say something like “lost/found,” “his kitten/her bear” and his “Julliet/her Romeo.”
Every time I see these usernames I know that the guy will assume everyone is trying to steal his girlfriend, while the girl will be either super quiet and shy or an obnoxious pick-me girl, begging for their boyfriend’s attention.
Playing a game with couples like this makes me want to rip my hair out after wasting 45 minutes to an hour of my time dealing with such toxic and incompetent human beings.
I have also experienced this in League of Legends, another game made by Riot Games.
League of Legends is a five-on-five multiplayer online battle arena with the goal to destroy the enemies base using different champions.
The same scenarios from VALORANT are seen in League of Legends from toxic “e-couples” to borderline pedophiles verbally assaulting female teammates.
In League of Legends, the effects of “e-couples” can literally turn the tides of winning and losing.
Child predators have even targeted games that play younger kids, like Minecraft and Roblox, where the FBI has warned parents that the danger is very much real.
When the FBI arrested two leaders from an international predator group called “764,” a victim’s mother said that her daughter was told to take her own life, according to a May 6, 2025 ABC7 article.
Honestly, if you are in a relationship and both love to play the same video games, especially competitive games, do the whole world a favor and stop playing games together. Nobody cares that your duo is your partner.
Video game developers make games for people to enjoy and step away from the real world with friends, not the place where online dating happens.
