One of the best things in life is ice cream, but sometimes after a while ice cream can make you feel terrible for it.
Fortunately, there is an amazing fix to this problem, which is making fun, healthy options for great food.
So here’s a healthy ice cream recipe that is another high protein meal with a great taste that won’t leave you thinking you’re eating a gross-tasting healthy alternative.
It’s not bad for you to eat ice cream every once in a while, but with this recipe, you can eat a whole pint of ice cream every single day without needing to feel conscious about your health.
Effectively, the taste and ingredients are similar to frozen yogurt, but we’re calling it ice cream.
If you want to be semantic you can call it a frozen protein concoction thing.
Ingredients
– One scoop of protein powder
– Around two cups milk of choice
– Two teaspoons Stevia
– Two teaspoons of your choice of sugar free pudding mix
– One and a half tablespoons cocoa powder
– A pinch of salt
Optional:
– One tablespoon of peanut butter or One handful of dark chocolate chips
This recipe is intended to be used with the Ninja CREAMi, an ice cream blender retailed online and at many grocery stores.
However this can still be made by freezing the recipe overnight in a bowl and eating it as is.
Starting off, grab a pint container and put in slightly less than two cups of milk into the container.
Split the measurement up into one cup each and pour out a small splash, around 30 mL of the second cup.
You can either use any choice of milk you prefer depending on your food limitations, but I prefer fat free milk.
You can also combine milks by combining half almond and half fat free milk for fewer calories.
Next, add one scoop of protein powder of your choice of a flavor.
I use RYSE Supplements’ Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies or Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup protein powder because I like these flavors.
The texture may change if you are using different kinds of protein powder, such as whey or casein, but don’t be afraid to experiment.
Depending on which flavor you choose, put in two teaspoons of a similarly flavored pudding mix.
For example, if you chose chocolate as your protein powder you should use a chocolate pudding mix.
If you decide on a more distinct flavor like strawberry or blueberry muffin, it would probably taste better if you used something like vanilla.
For this recipe, I use a sugar free chocolate pudding mix.
Then put in one and a half tablespoons of cocoa powder.
If you aren’t using a chocolate flavor, skip this step and add in another teaspoon of your pudding mix.
After that, you will put in two teaspoons of stevia, your sweetener.
Fun fact, stevia is approximately 200 to 300 times sweeter than sugar in its purified form, according to a Sutter Health webpage, so be careful not to add too much.
Stevia is a good option as a zero calorie sweetener because it comes in the same form as sugar – powder – without the calories.
The last step of adding the ingredients is adding a pinch of salt. This helps lower the freezing point of the ice cream so ice crystals don’t form.
Next comes mixing and freezing.
Once you have added everything, you will need to mix all the ingredients thoroughly. You can use a spoon, but I recommend using a handheld milk frother because it makes it so you can thoroughly mix everything without having to worry about the ineffectiveness of using a spoon.
If you don’t have one, you can get one for around $5-$10 on Amazon or for $20 or more on the higher end.
Next freeze your ice cream overnight for at least 24 hours.
If you are using a Ninja CREAMi leave the lid off while it is freezing or it’ll have a bump on top that can break the machine.
When you are ready to eat the ice cream, take it out of your freezer and put on the lid, then run hot water over the sides.
There will be a white frost on the sides, and once this disappears, you can put in your pint, and use the lite ice cream option.
Be sure not to add a splash of milk to the top, as this tends to turn the ice cream into liquid in the mixer.
Once mixed the final option is to make a ring in the center of the ice cream by scooping out the middle and adding in a topping of your choice, then selecting the “mix in” option on the Ninja CREAMi.
I use peanut butter or dark chocolate chips, but you can put anything in from gummy bears to strawberries.
If you do not have a Ninja CREAMi, follow the same steps in a bowl and eat the ice cream without mixing it and it will still taste quite good.
It might seem like an oxymoron to say “healthy ice cream,” but I assure you that it really is possible.
