Rain may have delayed the start, but it didn’t dampen the San José Giants’ performance as they secured a 12-2 win over the Ontario Tower Buzzers.
Maintaining control despite steady rain in the final inning, the Giants never let up.
The Giants wasted no time setting the tone, scoring in the first inning to take an early lead.
First baseman Jeremiah Jenkins led the way for the Giants, with a three-run home run, giving San José a 4-0 lead.
Pitching also played a key role. Giants pitchers handled the middle innings with several strikeouts and limited Ontario’s chances.
Third baseman Hayden Jatczak led the team with four runs batted in (RBIs) and scored three runs.
As the game progressed into the seventh inning, winds began to pick up, adding another layer of difficulty for both teams.
Jenkins, who had two hits and one run in the seventh inning, said he felt good after the game given the weather conditions.
“I think as a team we handled it pretty well,” Jenkins said. “As far as myself, I think every at-bat I had today was good except for the last one.”
Jenkins said a big takeaway was improving his load and timing.
“I think that’s going to be my biggest thing to keep an eye on this whole season, just how early can I be and how locked in can I stay,” Jenkins said.
Giants pitchers continued to dominate. Right-hand pitcher Keyner Martinez handled the middle innings, recording multiple strikeouts.
Later, right-hand pitcher Jose T. Perez took over on the mound and continued the strong performance, getting key outs in the eighth inning to prevent Ontario from scoring.
The final inning brought more rain, which began to fall steadily around 2 p.m., but the Giants remained composed.
Despite a few late strikeouts, the team held its ground defensively.
Through shifting weather conditions, strong pitching and consistency, the Giants secured a well-rounded victory from first pitch to the last.
The Giants have five more games in the series against the Tower Buzzers and will play tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at Excite Ballpark.
